Howard County Government is giving away free trees to County each county residence (while supplies last). This is the second round of 2010 Trees, entitled 2010 MORE Trees in 2010! Residents will need to fill out an online order form to make their selection. (Don't forget to check with you Homeowner's Associations)

Each County residence is eligible to choose one free native tree from the following selection:
- Red Maple (Acer rubrum);
- Serviceberry (Amelanchier canadensis);
- Eastern Redbud (Cercis canadensis); ,
- Flowering Dogwood (Cornus florida).
Starting September 13 at 9 a.m., order forms will be available from the County website. Trees are available on a first come, first served basis. Online ordering will close down at 5 p.m., Wednesday, September 22.
The two pickup sites, located in eastern and western Howard County,
- West Friendship Park, 12985 Frederick Road, West Friendship (directions)
- Dorsey Building, 9250 Bendix Road, Columbia (directions)
The “2010 MORE Trees in 2010” program is an initiative of the Department of Recreation and Parks’ Natural Resources Division and the Office of Environmental Sustainability. The program is funded through interest earned from the Forest Conservation Fund. The fund was established in conjunction with the County’s Forest Conservation laws which require developers to pay into the fund if they do not meet forestry requirements when developing properties in Howard County.
